Sick singletrack. One of the sickest trails in Eagle Valley for all those singletrack enthusiasts.
TAKE CAUTION of Sheep Herd that roams the upper meadows of trail..
BEWARE: Sheep Herd protected by Dogs, AND roam the upper meadows. DOGS will chase you down if you get too close or feel like flock is in danger. Believe me dogs will mess you up. Personal experience with dogs. IF YOU SEE THE SHEEP I RECOMMEND YOU TURN AROUND AND GO BACK THE WAY YOU CAME. Its a bummer, but trying to pass is not worth the risk/pain of getting mauled and potentially unable to ride for rest of bike season.
According to the Holy Cross Forest Service the sheep will be in the area through the end of September. Stop by the Office at the start of the trail before your ride and they can give you the most current information on the flock. Trail is worth riding!! Dont Let sheep deter you from checking out of the best singletracks in the eagle valley!!!
IF ANYONE HAS MORE INFORMATION PLEASE UPDATE THIS POST
Just an update on sheep: I have not encountered them this week (July 12-16). Just stay aware of surroundings especially in upper meadows as you may run into the herd. Otherwise enjoy the sick ride!
I have found that if you loudly shout "go back to the sheep!" the dogs will turn around and leave you alone. I always walk my bike until I'm well past the dogs.
From my limited but very awful experience with sheep dogs you got lucky. The advice to turn around and leave is prudent.
